If you are writing about a PC that will not boot, it helps enormously to include the exact error text or stop code, what happened immediately before it started, and whether the machine was recently updated, moved to a new drive, or had its BIOS changed. The error checker will also give you the likely cause in a few seconds, which is often faster than waiting on a reply.

Before you write about a drive that is making noise

If the drive is clicking, grinding or beeping, power the machine off and leave it off. Every further attempt to boot it is risk, and running repair tools on it can end the drive for good. Then get in touch — that is a recovery job, not a software one.
